Finding out that you are expecting more
than one is a shock – and your reactions will swing between
(dubious) pleasure, crying, giggling (hysterically) and wondering
how on earth you will manage. I remember I did feel pride that I
had managed to conceive two babies, when most people around me
could only manage one!
|
But, I can reassure you that you will
find ways to cope, that nothing is as difficult as you think
it is going to be, and the rewards are immeasurable. Twins
are, it seems, noticeably more cute than singletons, so you
will fall in love with them in no time at all. Mine certainly
are a remarkable sight! At one year old, they have joint fits
of laughter that seem to be triggered for no apparent reason
but which is absolutely enchanting!
Twins are notorious for
the amount of hard work – and that certainly is true. But wait
a minute – they will always have a playmate, and they will
always have someone to be there for them. On the work front,
just think of the amount of time you save by doing two at
once! I always fed my twins at the same time, one mouthful for
one, one mouthful for the other. Very time efficient!
Mealtimes take exactly the same time for two as meals did for
one. |
 |
Because they keep each other company they are often happy to
wake up in their cot and do not necessarily cry to be picked up
immediately. Yes, bathing and dressing takes the same amount of
time each, but as you will do it so efficiently, I bet you will
soon be faster than for a singleton!
There are other practical considerations and our Handy Hints
may be useful for you. TAMBA is a useful organisation, as they
offer lots of practical information on having twins, and obviously
the support of other twin/multiples parents can also be
invaluable.
